Mountain Cats Program

Parents tell us that their kids absolutely love Catamount – and the biggest reason is the Mountain Cats kids ski program at the Catamount Snow Sports School.

Catamount has more than 60 ski and snowboard professionals who specialize in coaching kids and we make sure that your child has the best possible experience on snow while learning the skills they need to excel.

The Mountain Cats program at Catamount emphasizes three objectives: safety, fun, and learning!

Children ages 4 to 6 can participate in Skiing Only.
Children ages 6 to 12 can participate in snowboarding.

Children ages 4 – 12 can participate in skiing.

The Mountain Cats program is available on weekends and holidays. We also offer Thursday and Friday morning sessions during our non-holiday periods; reservations are required. Sessions are Half-Day ( 9:30am – 12:00pm OR 1:00pm – 3:30pm ) or Full-Day (9:30am – 3:30pm ). Lunch and 2 snacks are included in Full-Day sessions. Half-Day sessions include 1 snack. Full day lift tickets are included in the price of the sessions, but rental equipment must be purchased separately.

Private instruction for children is available midweek and for children younger than 4 years of age with reservations. Please arrive 45 minutes before your child’s scheduled session start time in order to register, rent equipment, etc. We have a direct entrance from the parking lot to Mountain Cats.

Advance reservations are highly recommended.

Reservations for Mountain Cats are limited and generally must be placed more than 48 hours in advance from the day being requested. If your child cannot make the reserved day or time, a 48 hour cancellation notice is required. Late arrivals risk the chance of losing their spot, so please arrive at the suggested time. We also ask that all children be dressed and ready to go at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time of the class session they are registered for.

Sunday, March 24th will the last day of the 2018-2019 season for the Mountain Cats Program. The Mountain Cats Program will not operate on March 30th, 31st, and April 1st.

Consider the following suggestions when preparing your child for a day on the mountain!

  1. Wear the right socks – Wool or wool blend socks are the best socks to wear when skiing and snowboarding, but remember that only 1 pair is needed. Cotton socks don’t keep your feet warm and they retain moisture. Wool socks will keep your child’s feet nice and toasty in the cold weather.
  2. Keep the scarves at home – Scarves are okay for playing in the snow, but on the mountain they can get caught on the chairlift or Wonder Carpet lifts, causing injury. The best thing to do is to not wear one.
  3. Dress in layers – This is the most important one. Dressing in layers is important because if your child gets too warm it is easier for them to remove an article of clothing than it is to add clothing if they get cold.
  4. Don’t forget the little things – Don’t forget about the sunscreen and those little hand warmers and foot warmers. They can help make all the difference in the world. If you forget to pack these items, don’t worry. You can purchase these items and more at Catamount’s Cat’s Paw retail shop next to the outdoor Ticket Booth.
If you’re still not sure what your child should wear when they go skiing, feel free to contact us and we’ll give you some useful tips that will be sure to make your child’s day fun and memorable.

A core group of instructors will be assigned to the groups for the duration of the program.  Groupings will be based on skiing ability and skier/boarder interests.  Each participant will be required to participate in a “ski-off” the first week of the program to properly match your child to an appropriate group.  Those who are not available for the first weekend will have their ski-off on their first day attending. The price of the program, including a reserved & supervised lunch area (lunch not included), is $725 per child before 10/31, after 10/31 $825 and does not include a season pass but a season pass is required. Be sure to register soon as space is limited.
