Freeride Catamount Mountain Biking

snowflake Freeride Catamount

Freeride catamount is back and better than ever for 2009! We’re taking excitement to new heights starting Saturday, beginning June 20th and continuing through Labor Day, Freeride Catamount will be open for mountain biking. We are offering terrain for XC and DH disciplines including top to bottom single-track in varying degrees of difficulty from intermediate to expert as well as open trail DH and XC. Our single-track trails feature several man-made and natural obstacles including bridging ride-overs, step-ups, down-ladder bridges, table-tops, launches of varying intensity and depth, hip and wall rides, switchback berms and assist bridges, and a signature log ride created by Wild Bill Markham.

Mountain Biking will be CLOSED Saturday (7/4) due to this weeks rain. Sunday's opening (7/5) is still pending due to the continuing wet weather. Check back for updates to plan for Sunday's opening.

Intense Cycles Demo Day a huge success!

On June 6th  50 people came out to ride with us and try out the incredible Intense hand-made bicycles.  The new 951 was a big hit with many riders. Mad March Racing's Billy Allison gave a free Skills Park clinic to  beginning riders  and everyone had a great time.  Stay tuned for more manufacturer demo days this season as well as other industry events.

NEW! Gravity Skills Park

For 2009, we are proud to announce the opening of our all new Gravity Skills Park designed by Jim Dellavalle of Mad March Racing. The park features a berm track with rollers in different configurations, a rock garden and log ride, ladder drops, table-top jump series, and ground trick designed to provide skills development and and training for riders of all ages and ability levels.

NEW! Mad March Racing Learn-to-Ride Camps

For 2009, we are privileged to host 3 Mad March racing Learn-to-ride Camps. MMR's Learn-to-Ride Trail Introduction is a confidence building program designed for both men and women. These sessions focused on a specific set of techniques, creating a series of 'building blocks' which a rider calls upon in each trail ride. Have fun learning great skills along with increasing your confidence and feel safer on the trails with MMR's no-pressure coaching techniques. Freeride Catamount will be hosting MMR camps on the following days this season:

Mountain Biking Safety

  • Cyclists, like all mountain users, should always be alert to the risks inherent in their sport. Responsible behavior and good judgment are essential for you to safely enjoy mountain biking at Catamount. Remember that the mountain environment poses potential hazards. Rocks, logs and other natural and man-made obstacles may be encountered suddenly and without warning. Be especially careful of waterbars (ditches or mounds placed throughout the mountain to control erosion), snowmaking towers, water and air supply pipes, and lift tower footings. They may be visible or hidden by grass and should be approached slowly and cautiously.

  • A first-aid kit should be carried at all times, sufficiently stocked totreat cuts, sprains and bruises, the typical mountain bike injuries. Sunscreen, insect repellent and plenty of water are also recommended.
  • Check your equipment before riding to make sure it is fully functional to help prevent accidents. Check your fittings, brakes, tire pressure, and make sure that your helmet is the correct size.

Responsibility Code

  • Do not bike alone. Even though the mountain is patrolled periodically, a minor mishap can turn serious if you are stranded.

  • A helmet is mandatory when riding at Catamount.

  • Know your riding ability and do not try to exceed it. If in doubt, walk it out!

  • Do not stop where you obstruct a trail or cannot be seen by other mountain users.

  • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the mountain.

  • Drug use is illegal and will not be tolerated anywhere on Catamount property.

  • Observe all CLOSED TRAIL signs, barriers and ropes.

  • Do not disturb animals or plants anywhere on the mountain.

  • NO FIRES ARE ALLOWED ANYWHERE ON CATAMOUNT PROPERTY.

  • Take out everything you brought with you. Do not litter.

  • Ride on marked trails only, following trail signs. Do not venture off the trail.

  • Observe lift rules.
